Heat pump water heater FAQs

How is a heat pump water heater different from a conventional electric water heater?

A heat pump water heater uses electricity to pump heat from the surrounding air into the water in the heater. A conventional water heater (aka a storage water heater) creates heat to warm the water and then moves it to your desired location, similar to how a central air system works for heating and cooling a home.

Why is a heat pump water heater more energy efficient than a conventional electric water heater?

While conventional water heaters have come a long way in energy efficiency, a heat pump water heater is still the more energy efficient choice. A heat pump water heater moves heats while a conventional electric water heater has to create heat. And moving heat requires a lot less energy than creating it.
