The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has worked in the Memphis community since 1933 to give injured and abused dogs and cats a second chance at life. We provide a safe place to recover, nutritious food and outstanding veterinary care for an average of 100+ animals at a time. Our staff and volunteers provide training, affection, and socialization to the animals in our care to help them be adopted successfully into new and loving homes.
Custom HVAC upgrade incentive lowers costs for deserving Memphis non-profit.
MEMPHIS, TN — Since 1933, the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has been providing shelter, food and medical care for injured, neglected, and abused animals. The shelter recently completed a comprehensive heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC) upgrade with help from a custom HVAC incentive from TVA EnergyRight and MLGW.
Before the upgrade, the shelter’s aging and inefficient chiller plant was struggling to maintain a comfortable temperature for their employees — and the animals they serve. Prone to frequent breakdowns and costly repairs, the system was draining resources that the organization needed to achieve its mission.
Saving dollars to save more lives.
Thanks to a custom $9,370 incentive from TVA EnergyRight and MLGW, the shelter was able to replace their existing HVAC system, which was at the end of its lifespan, with a new high-efficiency unit. The new equipment is projected to save the organization 93,701 kWh and an estimated $9,370 in annual electricity costs. The annual savings will help cover expenses associated with caring for the community’s vulnerable animals.
