COMMISSIONING INCENTIVES

Get paid for optimizing your building’s performance with commissioning incentives.

Commissioning is a strategic process that ensures your facility’s systems — such as mechanical and electrical — are operating at peak efficiency. Find out how your business can get paid for saving energy by tuning existing systems and/or performing ongoing whole-building optimization.

Let’s talk about incentives.

Whether you’re ready to apply for an incentive, looking for multiple bids or need guidance, you can connect with an Energy Expert for advice that’s tailored to your needs.

Step 1 of 2

Two powerful commissioning incentives designed to fit your building and your needs.

Existing large commercial buildings such as universities, hospitals, government facilities, airports, high-rises and more are eligible for our commissioning incentives — no capital investment required. Get paid to fine-tune your existing equipment and systems, reducing energy use and improving operational performance.

Why choose retro-commissioning?

With retro-commissioning, no capital investment is required and your business gets paid for making existing systems work better. It’s designed for one-time operational improvements such as HVAC scheduling, sensor calibration and lighting controls.

Why choose monitoring-based commissioning?

Monitoring-based commissioning is also known as ongoing commissioning. It helps complex facilities like hospitals and universities achieve energy savings by optimizing building operations and maintenance. The program uses historical billing data and analytics to track whole-building energy savings from your improvements.

Incentive basis

Pre-determined calculations that identify one-time operational improvements.

Annual kWh reduction from the ongoing improvements made during the 12-month performance period.

Incentive minimum required

$1,500
An annual energy savings of at least 30,000 kWh to achieve $1,500 at $0.05/kWh.

$1,500
Buildings require an annual consumption of 1 GWh or more to meet the $1,500 requirement at $0.05/kWh.

Pre-Approval

Yes, measure calculations submitted prior to implementing.

No, the performance period may begin following the normalized baseline modeling period.

Pre-Inspection

Implementation

Days following approval: Improvements to individual measures made following pre-approval.

Annually: Ongoing improvements over 12-month term with option to continue by reapplying for another year when first year concludes.

Application requirements

  1. Submit application before starting improvements.
  2. For each improvement planned, provide detailed energy calculations showing the current usage and projected one-year energy savings.
  1. Submit application within ±3 months of starting the performance period improvements.
  2. Include a 12-month normalized baseline model (R² > 0.75) ending < 3 months before the annual performance period begins.
  3. Utility bills are used to develop the 12-month baseline model.

Qualify for both incentives?
Enjoy even greater energy savings.

Some projects may qualify for both retro- and monitoring-based commissioning incentives. When an energy-saving measure is included in applications for both incentives, your business enjoys greater energy savings and incentive payouts.
