A Salon Saves Energy Using Efficient Appliances and Controls

Case Study, Commercial buildings, Hair salons

A salon in Massachusetts implemented a sustainability initiative to use less water and energy. To be more energy efficient, the salon installed new LED lighting and thermostat controls. The salon also added faucet aerators and an ENERGY STAR–certified clothes washer and dishwasher to save energy and water. And it now sources 100% of its energy from wind farms.

As a result of the initiative, the salon achieved $4,300 in net savings over the lifetime of its energy-efficient appliances and LED lighting. The salon also achieved annual savings of:

  • 1 million gallons of water
  • $1,100 in operating costs
  • 5,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity
